$0.260 50-296 BROWNS PERRY NUCLEAR PLANT (BFN) - ENVIRONENTAL QUALIFICATION (EQ) PROGRAM STATUS The purpose of this letter is to provide the status of BFN's EQ program as requested by NRC per telecon on March 13 1931, 3
During the week of. June; 25,1990, the NRC staff performed an inspection of BFN's EQ program. At that time, the EQ program was
- 75. percent complete and the NRC Staff informed TVA that a final inspection would be performed prior to the restart of BFN Unit 2.
The final EQ inspection by NRC has been tentatively scheduled for March 25, 1991.-
In order to assist the NRC staff in its preparation for the
-inspection, TVA is providing a status of the follow.tng areas:
dryvell-work, EQ binders, essentially alid (EM) calculations, maintenance baselines, and design change notices.
Drvve11 WoJjst l'he remaining EQ-relatea dryvell vork is primarily associated with the replacement of the main steam isolation-valve (MSIV) limit. suitches,-installation of cable terminations and conduit-seals _on the main steam relief _ valves _(M8RVs),=and--
completion of. installation of the MSRV acoustic fnonitora. - This work is scheduled for completion after hydrostatic testing.
Additionally, there are.approximately 25 other items -(e.g.,
repairs to flex conduit) that are being worked and are scheduled to be completed before March 25, 1991.

At present, 62 binders are complete. Additionally, 12 binders are scheduled for completion prior to March 25, 1991. The remaintig 10 binders are asecciated with the drywell work on the MSIVs, MSRVs and the MSRV acoustic monitors.
EtLlalcula11on61 There are 10 EM calculations at BFN Unit 2.
At present all calculations ate complete.
Ilowever, two calculatione are being revisedt one is scheduled for completion by March 22. 1991, the remaining calculation is scheduled for cornpletlon by March 29, 1991.
Maintruance.Jasclines A maintenance baseline ja the documentation that a specific qualification mainteaance data sheet activity (or "taseline activity") h9s been perfonned.
For example, if two splices were required
)
on one component then this would count as two " baseline activities."
Thore are approximately 700 " baseline activities" remain bg out of approximately 9.5003 the majority of these netivities are related to the main steam system.
Design ChangcJ atices.1 There are 3 open EQ-related design change notices. These are associated with the drywell work on the MSRVs and the MSRV acoustic monitors.
