SUBJECT:

MEETING

SUMMARY

- MARCH 31, 1994, NRC MAINTENANCE INSPECTION PROCEDURE WORKSHOP The subject workshop was held at the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Rockville, Maryland. This was the second public workshop on NRC "Results f-L Based" maintenance inspection procedures.

The list of pre-registered

(

attendees is provided as Enclosure 1, a transcript of the meeting as l, the workshop handout as Enclosure 3, and submitted written l

comments as Enclosure 4.

The purpose of the workshop was to provide the public an opportunity to comment on the NRC draft maintenance inspection procedure which will be used by NRC inspectors to verify the implementation of the Maintenance Rule (10 CFR 50.65). Workshop presentations included an overview of the NRC inspection program, the maintenance rule and the NUMARC 93-01. industry guidance, the contents of the draft maintenance inspection procedure, and preliminary maintenance rule enforcement information.

Headquarters maintenance rule staff and NRC regional inspection representatives participated in the discussions.

As stated in the Federal Registrar Notice published on February 4,1994, the written comments received through April 14, 1994, will be considered for incorporation, as appropriate, into the next revision to the inspection procedure. Written comments were received by mail from the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), Winston & Strawn, Brookhaven National Laboratories and nine utilities. Most of the items-included in the written comments were also l

discussed at the workshop, and many comments received from the utilities were included in those received from NEI.
