Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Periodic Testing of TMI-1 Auxiliary and Fuel Handling Building (AUX & HIB) System Modifications In response to inquiries by your staff, the following information is provided concerning testing of the AUX and HIB ventilation system modifications installed to achieve TMI-1 and TMI-2 separation.
In addition to the acceptance tests already performed on this equipment by GPUN (See our letter 5211-82-232 dated September 29, 1982), a revision to the surveillance procedure (SP-1303-4.15) for Radiation Monitoring System has been initiated to include the testing of the RIB isolation damper interlocks with the MIB ventilation supply fan.
As part of the surveillance procedure this equipment is tested monthly '_o verify proper operation of the interlocks for the isolation dampers and the supply fan. This is accomplished by simu-lating a high radiation signal for RM-A4, the atmospheric radiation monitor interlock and RM-G9, the area radiation monitor interlock, which trips the FIIB supply fan and closes the isolation dampers.
Specific details for testing these interlocks can be found in SP-1303-4.15.
