Congel Director, Division of Radiation Protection and Emergency Preparedness office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Congel:

Enclosed is a copy of the final exercise report of the August 29, 1990, exercise of the offsite radiological emergency response plans, site-specific to the Wolf Creek Generating Station.

The State of Kansas and the Counties of Coffey, Anderson, and Lyon partially participated in this exercise.

The report, dated November 27, 1990, was prepared by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VII staff and a copy has been forwarded to the State.

There were eight Deficiencies and five Areas Requiring Corrective Action identified during the August 29, 1990, exercise.

A remedial exercise was conducted on November 28, 1990, correcting all eight Deficiencies previously identified.

Enclosed is a memorandum from the FEMA Region VII Regional Director dated,

December, 3,

1990, certifying the correction of all eight Deficiencies.

We will notify your office of the status of other l

required corrective actions as soon as they are reported by FEMA l

Region VII.

Based on the results of the August 29, 1990, exercise and the November 28, 1990, remedial exercise, the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness site-specific to the Wolf Creek Generating Station are adequate to provide reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken offsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the site.

Therefore, the Title 44 CFR, Part 350 approval of the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness, site-specific to the Wolf Creek Generating Station, granted on April 4, 1989, continues to be in effect.
