Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on 5/8" Parker-Hannifin Stain 1Es S*cel Tees (#50)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

On February 10, 1982, Detroit Edison sulnitted, what was apparently a final report on the problem with 5/8" Parker-Hannifin stainless steel tees.

The initial problem was discovered duritc, routine liquid penetrant inspection of welds when linear indications were noted on the fittings. Shnt liquid penetrmt inspection of fittings, that had not yet been installed, revealed linear indications.

These deficient fittings were frcm one ship ent with one heat number (215F) . ' '

These fittings were removed frcm the warehouse, and ins'.alled fittings were replaced utilizing fittings with other nunbers. The problem was then thought to be rectified.

On Noverber 18, 1982, Mr. D. Ferencz, Acting 6.apervisor-Construction Quality Assurance, notified Mr. J. Ymklin of Region III that Detroit Edison was nodifying its pusition on this ratter due to tk discovery of problems with other Parker-Hannifin fittings (Heats 019F and 043F) .

All Parker-Hannifin tees (of the suspect heats) installed in Class I systers have been ranoved anc' replaced. A revised Deviation Disposition Request has been written which allows the location of the remaining discrepant tecs in- *.

stalled in Class II and III systems through docunent review. These reraining tees will ba removed at that tire. This item will remain open until the ccnple-tion of docurent review by Wisner and Decker, and the replacerent of all identi-fled tees.

Another report on this item, either interim or final, is sclxxlulcd to be sent on or before March 25, 1983. If you have questions concerning this ratter, please contact Mr. G.M. Trahey, Assistant Director-Project Quality Assurance. -

Very truly yours, "
