" Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (Grand Gulf) - Final Analysis Required'by 10CFR50.44", MAEC-90/0193, dated August-10, 1990
- 2) Letter from Ashok C. Thadani (NRC) to J. R. Langley (HCOG), " Acceptance for Referencing of Licensing Topical Report Titled, ' Generic ' Hydrogen Control Information for BF'.-6 Mark III Containments' ", HGN-112-NP, dated August 6, 1990 GNRO-91/00036 Gentlemen:
Grand Gulf Nuclear Station-(GGNS) was requested by Reference 1 to submit the Hydrogen Control Final Analysis by March 1, 1991. GGNS is unable to
-respond by the currently scheduled date because resolution of generic hydrogen control issues between the Hydrogen Control Owners' Group (HCOG) and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is pending. The outcome of these generic _ issues currently under discussion will af fect the content of the GGNS Hydrogen Control Final Analysis.
Therefore, by way of this letter, GGNS is notifying the NRC that the originally scheduled submittal date of March 1,1991 for the GGNS Hydrogen Control Final Analysis will not be met.
This original date was based on receiving a SER with no remaining open issues. As previously noted and discussed below, HCOG considered the generic SER to have several items that required additional clarification and thus HCOG was unable to meet-its originally scheduled submittal date. As a result, it is GGNS' intent to now submit its Hydrogen Control Final Analysis within six months af ter submittal of the HCOG t.ccepted Topical Report.

The SER identified the basis for closure of the hydrogen control program to address generic aspects for compliance with 10CFR50.44. The SER also identified specific areas to be addressed in plant specific submittals and requested a rosnonso f rom 11C00 within three months af ter receipt of the SER.
On October 23,1990,11C00 met with the NRC for the purpose of reviewing the SER. The NRC requested that 11C00 provido additional information regarding its position on several items.
Further discussion took place during a conference call initiated by the Staff on November 16, 1990. To adequatoly. address NRC questions regarding IlCOG's position, further work has boon required.
Resolution of the issues will affect the content of IlCOG Generic Response to the SER.
.40G Intends to submit its Generic Response (i.e., the Accepted Topical Report montioned in Reference 2) within three months af ter NRC acceptanco of the items currently pending.
