Byron /Braidwood Simulator facility Certification of Simulator facilities-10 CFR 55.45 ffRC_DocktLNot._50-9541455_and_5h456L457

Reference:

G.E. Trzyne letter to U.S. NRC dated October 7, 1988 providing the Certification Documents for the Byron and Braidwood Simulator facility.

Gentlemen:

The referenced letter submitted the information puisuant to 10 CfR

-55.45.b.5 in order.; attain Certification of the Braidwood Simulation faellity.

The submittal for certification addressed both units at Byron and Braidwood Stations with Braidwood-Unit 1 *,erving as the reference plant.

In g

the section titled " Reg. Guide 1.149 Requirements"'of our certification report, the requirements for dual plant simulation facilities were evaluated and the results ?emonstrated that the Braidwood Simulator's performance 8

compares favorably with each unit. Additionally, Reference (1) provided the four NRC form 474's, t.e., one for each doctet number; two copies of the

' Initial Certification. Report,-dated May 1988 and a list of deviations from

~ i ANSI /ANS 3.5-1985. Therefore, CECO considers the requirement to have a certified simulation facil.ity in place by March 26, 1991 to be met for both Braidwood and Byron Stations.

Currently, CECO is' constructing a new Byron simulator which is scheduled for delivery in August 1991.

To avoid confusicn, we would like to clarify our position regarding the use of each simulator.

Byron shall continue utilizing the Braidwood Unit I simulator for training end license examinations untti the new Byron simulator is delivered, thoroughly tested, and certified by CECO to be the Byron site specific simulator.

Upon HRC review of our-documentation and successful'. resolution of all certificat ton incoh es. the Braldwood Unil 1 simulator's certification for Byron station will be discontinued.
