SUBJECT:
Completion of Confirmatory Action Items
Dear Mr. Collins:
In accordance with my letter of February 26, 1982, wherein I stated PSC planned responses to six (6) confirmatory action items set forth at the completion of the January Emergency Preparedness Appraisal Audit, I am writing to attest to the completion of item number three (3), cs scheduled.
The completion of items one (1), two (2), and four (4), as scheduled was detailed in my letter to you dated June 2, 1982 (P-82175).
Item number three (3) dealt with requirements necessary to upgrade our offsite radiological monitoring capability.
The purchase and installation of Iodine monitoring instrumentation has been completed.
Two (2) Eberline SAM-2 detectors have been received, calibrated, and placed in the Engineering /QA Complex. A procedure for the use of this instrumentation has been written effective July 1,1982.
Although these instruments are currently equipped with rather heavy shielding, we are investigating the possibility of utilizing the instruments without the shields, and maintaining the capability of determining in the field Radioiodine concentrations of
~
1 x 10 7 tiCi/cc in air.
We are confident that this can be done, based on our communications with other utilities and our preliminary investigations of instrument performance.
In any event, the instruments as currently configured are capable of easily determining in the field Radiciodine concentrations of 1 x10 7 pCi/cc in air.

Keys for the above
~our (4) vehicles are stored in the Emergency Kits located at the Engineering /QA Complex and the PSC Warehouse.
If you have questions regarding our response to this item, or our progress on the remaining open item, please feel free to contact me.
I Very truly yours,
