" Debris Plugging of Emergoney Core Cooling System Suction Stralners' Gentiomen:
On February 18,1994, the NRC issued Supplomont 1 to Bulletin 93-02, *Dobrls Plugging of Emergency Core Cooling Suction Strainors,' to inform licensees about the potential vulnerability of Emorgency Core Cooling Systems (ECCS) suction stralners in Bolling '"ater Reactors (BWRs) and containment sumps in Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) to clogging during the recirculation phase following a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA). Specifically, Bulletin 93 02, Supplomont 1, requested that BWR licensoos take intorim actions within 90 days as delineated in the ' Actions Roquestod" section of the Bulletin. In addition,Bulletin 93-02, Supplement 1, contalnod two (2) reporting requirements stipulating that BWR licensees provide 1) a written responso within 60 days of the date of the Bulletin indicating whether or not the licensee intended to comply with the actions identiflod in the Outletin (i.e., Reporting Requirement 1), and
- 2) a writton rosponse within 30 days confirming completion of the requestod actions (i.e.,
Reporting Requirement 2).
By letter dated April 18,1994 PECO Energy Company respo'xfod to Bulletin 93-02, Supplement 1, for Poach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS), Units 2 and 3, t.nd Limerick Generating Station (LGS), Units ) and 2. In our response to Reporting Requiroment 1 of the Bulletin we Indicated that the fGowing actions would be implomontod at PBAPS and LGS to ensure that plant personnel ::e awn 9 of the potential vulnerability of the ECCS pump suction stralnors to clogging during the recircuetion phase after a LOCA.
o Operations personnel will be provided with a " training bulletin' which will specifically discuss the potential vulnerability of the ECCS pump suction stralnors to clogging. This Information will be disseminated to the applicable Operations personnel by April 30,1994.

Issued to the appropriate ERO personnel by May 31,1994.
o Licensed operator requalification training will be updated to include specific tra!ning on the potential vulnerability of ECCS pump suction strainers to clogging following a LOCA. The training will include discussions relativo to this Bulletin supplement, and the appropriate actions to be taken should this condition occur. The operator training will be performed during the next cycle of licensed oporator roqualification training currently schedulod to be completed by April 29,1994, at LGS, and by May 27,1994, at PBAPS.
Furthermore, in response to Reporting Requirement 2, we Indicated that a report, confirming completion, would be submitted within 30 days after completing these actions. Therefore, in accordance with Reporting Requiremont 2 of Bulletin 93 02, Supplement 1, this letter provides notification that the actions identiflod above have boon complated at PBAPS and LGS. This lottor is being submittod under affirmation in accordance with 10CFR50.54(f), and the required affidavit is attached.
