As you know, last year we initiated discussions with the staff concerning adoption of the advanced reactor source term work (NUREG-1465) into the Grand Gulf license basis.
Since that time we have done some preliminary work in evaluating the level of effort necessary to incorporate the new source terms and have given some thought to how the license basis can be changed under the present regulations as well as potential applications.
We have recently learned that the NRC intends to initiate an effort to formulate an approach to applying the new source term work to operating reactors.
We believe that Grand Gulf has the interest, experience and technical competence to contribute constructively to this ef fort and would like to offer our participation and support.
