Dear Mr. Erickson:

This letter is to let you know that the decommissioning of the R-3 reactor is taking longer than we had anticipated. When the concrete demo-lition work begain in October, the scheduled completion date was December 9.

However, as the work progressed, considerably more reinforcing steel was found in the concrete than was shown on the drawings. This has slowed down the demolition work. We have now increased the number of workers on the job. They will work until December 17th and then take a break for the Christmas holidays. The work will resume on January 3rd, and the schedule for completion is January 20.

Aside from this technical difficulty of breaking up heavily rein-forced concrete, we have not faced any other problems. There have been no surprises witt respect to radioactivity.

If you have questions, please feel free to call me or Robert Cross, our Reactor Health Physicist.

Very truly yours, I *('
