raney Prerect June 7, 1994 Docket No.: 50-348 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Unit 1 Input Files for Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA)
Gentlemen:
By letter dated March 2,1994, the NRC requested Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) assistance to support preparation of an NRC version of the Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP)
Unit 1 Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). Specifically, SNC was requested to provide a copy of the Unit 1 PRA input files to facilitate NRC creation of an independent model using the SAPHIRE code. Once created, this NRC PRA would become part of a library of models considered representative of various plant types. These models would allow risk quantification to facilitate NRC evaluation of actual plant occurrences or generic issues.
This letter provides the computer discs containing the Unit 1 PRA files to the NRC Project Manager for FNP. Based on discussions with EG&G, it is our understanding that the NRC and NRC contractors have sufficient expertise to adapt the FNP data to the SAPHIRE code with minimal assistance from SNC staff (i.e., approximately 3 person days). It should be noted that the FNP PRA model provided to the NRC is a snapshot of the plant as configured on May 1,1991. Should you require updated information in the future, please address your request to the Vice President, Farley Project.
We understand that a copy of the FNP PRA created using the SAPHIRE code will be provided to SNC, including any future updates of the software and modules. In addition, we further understand that SNC would have an opportunity to review and comment on the results of the NRC-created FNP PRA.
If you have further questions, please advise.
Respectfully submitted, I
