.LL RESOLUTION 180 - 1982 WHEREAS the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has ordered the suspension of the hearings being carried out by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board into the safety of the Indian Point Nuclear Plants, and WHEREAS immediately prior to such suspension the NRC had ordered the Atomic Safety and Licensing Commission to narrow the secpe of the hearings, and WHEREAS the effect of such actions by the NRC has been to deprive the public of a comprehensive and full ranging investigation into the issue of safety as it relates to the Indian Point Nuclear Plants, and WHEREAS this Board, while not taking a position on the issues under consider'ation, desires only that all the relevant facts be made available in an orderly and. Impartial manner, now therefore be it RESOLVED that the Westchester County Board of Legislators declares that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission acted inappropriately in narrowing the scope of the hearings by the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board and then by suspending them altogether, and be it further

.s RESOLVED that this Board requests in the strongest terms that the NRC

immediately move to resume the hearings and that the judges conducting the

hearings be allowed the proper latitude to carry out the proceedings in a

comprehensive and definitive manner, and be it further

i RESOLVED that this resolution be forwarded to the Nuclear Regulatory.

Commission, Westchester's representatives in the House and Senate, and to the President.
