SHOREHAM NUCLEAR POWER STATION rm -nwem.2 P.O. BOX 618, NORTH COUNTRY ROAD e WADING RIVER, N.Y.11792 Direct Dial Number March 17, 1983 SNRC- 860 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulator U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 Mark II Hydrodynamic Loads Confirmatory Program Shoreham Nuclear Power Station - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-322

Dear Mr. Denton:

On December 16, 1981, LILCO submitted Revision 5 to its report,

" Plant Design Assessment for SRV and LOCA Loads," (DAR). This report presented the results of confirmatory analyses on 30 representative piping subsystems located in the Shoreham reactor building for NUREG-0808 loads. These piping subsystems were selected on the criterion of having the smallest inherent design margins as discussed in the DAR. It was demonstrated that all pipe stresses and support loads were within design allowables, and therefore, the Shoreham reactor building piping and supports were capable of sustaining the effects of NUREG-0808 loads.

During a meeting held on August 9, 1982 between NRC Staff and LILCO representatives, it was decided that a 100 percent reevaluation of all piping subsystems located at elevations 21 ft., 83 ft., and 106 ft, would be performed on a confirmatory basis.

To that end, enciesed herewith are forty (40) copies of LILCO's report, " Mark II Hydrodynamic Loads Confirmatory Program, Additional Piping and Support Evaluations." This report contains the results of analyses for an additional 67 piping subsystems located at the above elevations. In all cases, it has been demonstrated that pipe stress and support loads are within design allowables and that adequate margin exists to accommodate NUREG-0808 loads.
