J ARKANSAS POWER & LIGHT COMPANY POST OFFICE BOX 551 LITTLE ROCK. ARKANSAS 72203 (501)371-4000 March 15, 1983 1CAN038305 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN: Mr. J. F. Stolz, Chief Operating Reactors Branch #4 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555
SUBJECT:
Arkan as Nuclear One - Unit 1 Docke No. 50-313 Licen: e No. DPR-51 NUREG 0630 - Results of Bounding Analysis Gentlemen:
As indicated by our letter from Mr. John R. Marshall to Mr. J. F. Stolz dated February 15,1983(ICAN028312), B&W has recently completed supplemental emergency core cooling system (ECCS) calculations to address the impact of the cladding models presented by the NRC staff in NUREG 0630.
After reviewing the B&W report, AP&L has discovered several inadequacies which require correction.
As it now reads, the report is inconsistent and potentially misleading.
In addition, we have been informed that B&W is studying the results of some recent NUREG 0630 analyses which produced some inconsistent data that could possibly affect the validity of the AN0-1 analysis.
For these reasons, we believe that additional tine will be necessary to correct the report and analyze the data inconsistencies being studied by B&W; therefore, we plan to to submit the results of the corrected report by May 15, 1983.
This should allow time for a more careful study of the results and in addition will allow time for the B&W Owners Group Analysis Subcommittee to discuss the issue.
Very truly yours, 0'
