Dear Mr.'O'Reilly:
On August 17,' ~1982, Mr. Hugh Dance of your office was notified of a potential substantial safety hazard' in Lintitorque Corporation valve notor operators (Madel SB-0-25) due to motor pinion key failure. Westinghouse Electric Corporation notified South Carolina Electric and Gas Coupany (SCE&G), one of its NSSS custorv2rs, of the subject condition which had been discovered during valve operator nrxlifications/ inspections at other sites. The possibility of sheared pinion f.eys had previously been identified for Limitorque Ndel SMB-4 motor operators in I&E Information Notice 81-08.
SCE&G has investigated Model SB-O-25 operators at the V. C. Suniner Nuclear Staticn and has determined 'that these type operators are not installed at the Station. 'Ihis will be the final report on the subject operators since there is to further action necessary. Any information related to other type Limitorque Corporation operators will be treated under separate correspor 3ence.
