d I would like to bring to your attention an issue of great at.the Detroit Edison, Fermi II, plant near Monroe, Michigan, has-g

-led to the release of over 1.5 million gallons of contaminated 1

water into Lake Erie.

Since learning of the planned release of water, I have.been pushing to find answers to several questions-that. persist'in the mi'nds of the residents of-northeast Ohio.

First ofiall, why did the accident at Fermi'II occur in the-first place.and did Detroit Edison fail to follow any appropriate ~

procedures to' ensure safety?

Second,' what actions has the NRC taken to ensure that similar events do not occur'either at' Fermi II or other power; j

Although Detroit Edison's actions may have been within the guidelines of the law, the people of northeastern Ohio who rely upon Lake Erie for their drinking water, recreation, and jobs need to be sure that this resource is safe.
