Seismic Piping Reanalysis Program

Dear Sir:

In Ref erence (b), we outlined an extensive program with regard to upgrading the analyses f or seismic piping at our f acility.

This ef f ort was initiated by us in response to the concerns expressed in I&E Bulletins 79-02 l

and 79-14.

The purpose of this letter is to inf orm you of the present status of our reanalysis program.

In Reference (c), we indicated that the necessary reanalyses would be completed by October 1, 1982. As of September 1982, approximately 75% of this ef f ort was completed. At that point in time, results of torus attached piping load analyses were received from our consultant.

Consistent with the objectives of the seismic reanalysis program and in consideration of the requirements of the January 13, 1981, " Order f or Modification of License,"

issued via Reference (d) and modified via References (e) and (f); which requires us to complete our Mark I Containment Long-Term Program prior to starting up f rom the 1983 refueling outage; we were obligated to redirect our primary ef f ort s towards torus-attached piping.

Due to this re-direction of i

ef f orts and the resources necessary to design supports just f or the torus piping, we find that our schedule f or completing the entire seismic reanalysis program was overly optimistic.
