UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20555-0001 March 10, 2020 Mr. Dan Tallman Manager, Rancho Seco Assets Sacramento Municipal Utility District Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station 114440 Twin Cities Road Herald, CA 95638-9799

SUBJECT:

FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR THE LICENSE RENEWAL OF THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION LICENSE NUMBER:

SNM-2510 FOR RANCHO SECO INDEPENDENT SPENT FUEL STORAGE INSTALLATION (DOCKET NUMBER: 72-0011)

Dear Mr. Tallman:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed its Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Sacramento Municipal Utility District license renewal request of the Rancho Seco Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation located on the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station in Sacramento County, California. The NRC staff has concluded that approval of the proposed license renewal for a period of 40 years would not significantly affect the quality of the human environment. Accordingly, an Environmental Impact Statement is not required and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) is appropriate. Enclosed is the Final EA and associated FONSI. This information will be published in the Federal Register on or about March 06, 2020.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) or from the Publicly Available Records component of NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS).

ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html.

Other documents related to this action can also be found in the NRC PDR or ADAMS.

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Jean Trefethen of my staff at (301) 415-0867 or via email at Jean.Trefethen@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
