This letter constitutes a fiaal report concerning the subject deficiency, initially reported to the Commission under.the re-quirements of 10CFR50.55(e) on June 17, 1982.
As stated in our previous report, QA-1864, dated July 8, 1982, torque switches manufactured by Limitorque for motor valve opera-tors have been found to malfunction as the motor torques out after opening or closing of the valve.
Investigations revealed that the cause of this malfunction was the result of a plastic lug on the switch which holds the torsion spring in place breaking off and freeing the spring.
Limitorque has recently designed and now manufactures brass lugs to replace the former plastic design. This problem is limited to SMB-00 and SMB-000 size operators. CG&E has reviewed all Limitorque operators at Zimmer and has identified a total of 126 operators with switches which require plastic lug replacement.
It is expected that this effort will be completed by March 1, 1983.
