Dear Mr. Keppler:

The purpose of this transmittal is to update information provided in Reference (a) relative to the HFA relay assembly cracking replacement program.

General Electric (NSSS-San Jose) has completed the replace-ment of lexan coils on all of the safety-related NSSS HFA relays for Units 1 and 2 with the exception of some Unit 2 relays that were damaged during construction.

The remaining Unit 2 NSSS safety related relays will be replaced with new qualified relays.

General Electric (IS&E), contracted by Commonwealth Edison Company, has completed the replacement of lexan coils on all of the safety-related balance-o f-plant HF A relays for Units 1 and 2, with the exception of four relays that were not upgraded due to a lack of l

qualified replacements.

Reference (b) recommended that a periodic visual inspection program be established and maintained until such time as the relays are upgraded or replaced.

Such a program will be l

implemented by LaSalle County Station by February 1,1983.
