Incremental Occupational Radiation Exposure Resulting from the Onsite Storage Facility This is in response to a telephone conversation with Detroit Edison and Dr. Nehemias during which you requested that we provide an estimate of the incremental occupational radiation exposure incurred by operation of the low-level waste onsite storage facility.
During a later conversation you requested an additional explanation of the estimate.
The additional occupational exposure is estimated to be less than two person-rem / year. This value is based on the storage facility being completely full with drums of solidified waste containing 200 Curles each, a very conservative assumption. The estimate includes exposure due to routine and special maintenance as well as normal operation.
It should be noted that this exposure is incurred only O!
if the facility is utilized for storage, whereas it is our intention to utilize offsite disposal in lieu of storage whenever possible.
