Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1)
Operating License No. DPR-50 Docket No. 50-289 Safety Valve Ring Setting On October 15, 1982 Babcock and Wilcox notified the NRC of a potential safety concern related to valve chatter for RCS code safety valves (Dresser 31739A) with ring setting significantly deviant from those used in the EPRI Safety and Relief Valve Tests. For D1I-1, the safety valve ring settings were adjusted to the EPRI ring settings during August 1982 when the valves were set point pressure verified at Wyle Laboratories prior to being installed at TMI-l on a short inlet configuration. A review of the EPRI tests using the EPRI ring settings indicates that the tests showed satisfactory valve perform-ance and the test parameters bound TMI-1 plant specific conditions (including backpressure).
