50-424/82-16 50-425/82-16 Attention: H. C. Dance Gentlemen:

The Georgia Power Company wishes to submit the following information concerning the violations discussed in your inspection report 50-424/82-20 and 50-425/82-20.

We concur with the finding identified concerning inadequate visual inspection procedure for piping butt welds. The reason the inspection procedure did not address the transition between different wall thicknesses is that it was inadvertently overlooked during procedure preparations.

Contractor pracedure x-18 has been revised to address transition between different wall thicknesses. Where transitions in thickness are involved, the required information is to be included on the welding technique sheet. An investigation has been made to identify any other similar conditions. The items identified in inspection report 82-20 along with similar conditions identified during our investigation have been documented by nonconformance reports.

Full compliance will be achieved by October 15, 1982.

We concur with the finding identified concerning failure to follow procedures for removal of arc strikes. The reason for the violation was failure by personnel to properly follow procedures.

Arc strikes removal records have been initiated per procedure for the identified items. In addition, a nonconfonnance report has been prepared to document all action taken.
