(Generic letter No. 90 03)

In reference to NRC letter dated March 20, 1990 from James G. Partlow, NRC,

" Relaxation of Staff Position in Generic Letter 83 28, Item 2.2 Part 2 ' Vendor Interface for Safety Related Components' (Generic Letter No, 90 03)," the following-information is provided.

The Generic Letter states that a review of the vendor interface program be completed and programs modified as necessary to assure that both of the elements set out below are met.

The staff has concluded that an adequate vendor interface program should include:

(a)

A program with the NSSS vendor as described in the Vendor Equipment Technical Information Program, which covers all the safety related components within the NSSS scope of supply. This program should include provisions for assuring receipt by the licensee / applicant of all technical information provided by the NSSS vendor; and (b)

A program of periodic contact with the vendors of other key safety-related components not included in (a) above,

Response

(a)

The review of the vendor interface programs has been completed.

Current NSSS vendor programs include the elements identified-in the. generic letter.

(b)

Documentation of the program for vendors of other key safety-relat<,d components has not been formalized.

A procedure will be in place by November 30, 1990, which will document the program and the list >;f the vendors of key safety related components.
