Gentlemen:
This letter is being submitted to notify the NRC that the Pennsylvania Departrnent of Environmental Resources (PA DER) has reviewed and denied a request to amend the Umerick Generating Station (LGS), Unit 1 and 2, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit No. PA0051926.
In a letter to the PA DER dated January 31,1994, we requested that the LGS NPDES permit be amended to permit the discharge of a solution of sodium pentaborate to the Schuylkil River from Outfall 001. The NRC was informed of this rec wst to revise the NPDES permit as required by the LGS, Environmental Protection Plan (EPP).
By letter dated March 11,1994, the PA DER denied our request to discharge a solution of sodium pentaborate to the Schuylkill River from Outfall 001. A copy of the PA DER letter denying our request is attached.

Dear Mr. Matty:
This is in response to your January 31, 1994 request to blend 25 drums of sodium pentaborate into the holding pond water and discharge at Outfall 001.
Your request to discharge is hereby denied. The proposed discharge is considered unnecessary for the proper operation of the Limerick facility.
Moreover, the use of NPDES Outfall 001 for disposal of unwanted chemicals is inappropriate.
