August 25,1982 Mr. Ronald C. Haynes, Director Docket No. 50-318 U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region 1 License No. DPR 69 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406 i

SUBJECT:

LER 82-39, Unit 2

Dear Mr. Haynes:

This letter is to confirm our verbal notification of your Mr. Dave Trimble of the discovery that both emergency airlock doors were simitaneously open for a brief period of time.

At 1030 on August 24,1982 while Unit No. 2 was in Mode 3, an employee upon opening the outer emergency airlock door discovered that the inner door was also partially open, creating a violation of contain-ment integrity (T.S. 3.6.1.3). The doors were shut at 1032, termin-ating the event. The release from this event totaled 825 micorcuries which resulted in a dose at the site boundary of 4.83X10~0 mR,which is far less than Technical Specification limits.

A complete description of the events leading to the discovery, and any further corrective action vill be addressed in a follow-up report.

Very truly yours,
