Beaver Valley Power Station - Union No. 2 Docket No. 50-412 Sheared Pinion Keys in Limitorque Motor Operators
REFERENCE:
NS-EPR-2637, of 8/6/82, " Substantial Safety Hazard as Defined in 10-CFR Part 21 for Potentially all Westinghouse Plants" Gentlemen:
Per the above reference, the NRC was notified by Westinghouse on August 6, 1982, that sheared pinion keys in Limitorque motor operators had been discovered during field modifications / inspections of this equipment.
Westinghouse notified Duquesne Light Company (DLC) of the problem on August 12, 1982. Upon notification, DLC began analysis concerning poten-tial reportability of this problem under 10CFR50.55(e) in accordance with the applicability to Beaver Valley Unit 2.
Upon completion of this evaluation, DLC plans to issue a report, interim or final, describing the details of the problem as they relate to Beaver Valley Unit 2.
It is expected that this report will be submitted to Region 1 by May 20, 1983.
