Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Control Rod Drive - Hydraulic Con-trol Units - Scram Accumulators (#80)
Dear Mr. Keppler:
On November 17, 1982, Detroit Edison's Mr. D. Ferencz, Acting Supervisor -
Construction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. P.M. Byron of NRC Region III to report a potential problem with the Control Rod Drive (CAD) - Hydraulic Control Units (HCU) - Scram Accumulators at the Fermi 2 site.
Daring disassembly of the accumulators, cracks and pitting of the chrome plating were found in the end caps. Corrosion products were also found in the accumulators. All one hundred and eighty five (185) accumulator assem-blies have been sent to General Electric's facility in Wilmington, North Carolina, for further examination and possible replacement of defective ccxn-ponents.
Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent on or before April 15, 1983. If you have questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. G.M. Trahey, Assistant Director - Project Qual-ity Assurance.
