This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition, initially reported to the Commission on August 4, 1982 as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).
Sargent & Lundy (S&L) and CG&E have completed preliminary evaluations of this condition and have concluded that the minimum allowable thread engagement for plugs in the pipe wall or weld boss is b;" for pipe systems with desien pressures less than 1350 psig; plugs not completely engaged in systems with pressures greater than 1350 psig must be individually evaluated.
Task III of the Zimmer Quality confirmation (QCP) is continuing its walkdown of accessible installed plugs and will document all nonconforming conditions on Nonconformance Reports (NR). Upon completion of the walkdown, the associated NRs will be evaluated; the significance of this deficiency will be determined and a report describing a schedule for completion of action on this item will be submitted by March 31, 1983.
