dated November 6, 1978 Reporting Potentially Reportable LP&L Incident #18

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

In accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(c) we are hereby providing two copies of Interim Report of Significant Deficiency No. 9, " Defective i

Emergency Diesel Generator Roller Pin."

The final report will be forwarded j

1 by August 31, 1979.

During a recent performance test on a Cooper-Bessemer KSV Power Engine it j

was found that some power cylinder subassemblics showed abnormal wear on the surface of the roller pin in the valve crosshead (see attached report).

It j

is felt that this abnormal wear over a longer period of time could cause the engine to malfunction.

A redesigned roller. pin has been developed by Cooper-Bessemer.

The subassemblies will be replaced.

This will be completed prior to the final report.

j Very truly yours,
