Docket Nos. 50-348 50-364 Director, Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

20555 Attention:

Mr. S. A. Varga Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 NUREG-0737, Item II.K.3.30 and II.K.3.31 Gentlemen:

NUREG-0737, Item II.K.3.30 required Alabama Power Company to submit, prior to January 1,1982, a revised Small Break LOCA (SB LOCA)

Model to account for recent experimental data.

As stated in letters to the NRC dated December 22, 1981, March 26, 1982 and June 4, 1982, Alabama Power Company's final resolution of this issue is dependent upon the submittal of a revision to the generic SB LOCA Model to the NRC by Westinghouse.

A draft report of this revised SB LOCA model was submitted to the NRC by Westinghouse letter NS-EPR-2681 on November 15, 1982 with the final report submitted by Westinghouse letter NS-EPR-2694 on December 22, 1982.

NUREG-0737 Items II.K.3.30 and II.K.3.31 required Alabama Power Company to submit to the NRC the results of plant-specific calculations using an NRC approved revised SB LOCA model one year af ter staff approval (NUREG-0737).

Due to the generic nature of this model and the large number of plant-specific calculations to be performed by Westinghouse. Alabama Power Company cannot commit to a specific submittal date at this time.

Alabama Power Company will provide a schedule for submission of the plant-specific calculations within ninety days of NRC approval of the Westinghouse revised SB LOCA Model.
