Dear Mr. Spessard:
INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-483/82-15 This reply is in response to your letter of November 26, 1982 which transmitted the report of the inspection conducted at Callaway Plant, Unit 1 during the period of October 1 to 31, 1982.
Our response to the item of noncompliance is presented below.
None of the material in the inspection report or in this response is considered proprietary by Union Electric Company.
(50-483/82-15-01) SEVERITY LEVEL IV VIOLATION 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Criterion III, Design Control, states,
" Measures shall be established to assure that applicable regulatory requirements.......are correctly translated into specifications, drawings, procedures and instructions.
These measures shall include provisions to assure that appropriate quality standards are specified and included in design documents and that deviations from such standards are controlled."
Bechtel Drawing E-OR8900, Raceway Notes, Symbols and Details, paragraph 3.31, states, "The support systems for Class IE raceways are designed seismic and the design and installation are "Q" classi-l fication as to seismic support and separation criteria."
l Contrary to the above, the inspector found two conduits marked as l
being Class IE (safety related) that are attached to nonseismic Category 1 platforms in each of the diesel generator rooms in the control building.

Responso It.is our understanding that the conduits identified by the inspector are the following: 1J5000, IJ5009, 4J5009, and 4J5010.
Upon review of Bochtol drawing number C-0S5212, Rev.
2, it has beon datormined that the platforms the conduits are attached to woro designed and installed as Soismic Category I as specified by the drawing.
