SUBJECT:

Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant Unit Nos.1 & 2; Docket Nos. 50-317 & 50-318 Evaluation of Isolation Provisions for the Service Water System (TAC Nos. M87189 and M87190)

REFERENCE:

(a)

Letter from Mr. D. G. Mcdonald, Jr. (NRC) to Mr R. E. Denton j

(BG&E), dated November 3, 1993, Request for Additional Information Concerning Evaluation of Isolation Provisions for the Service Water System In the referenced letter, the NRC Staff had identified eight points which required clarification for their review of the Service Water System. The areas in question deal with the use of walkdowns as opposed to analytical methods to determine the seismic adequacy of the non-safety-related portion j

of the Senice Water System. We believe that it would be beneficial to have the Staff members 1

involved in the review walkdown the Service Water System with members of our engineering staff.

This would provide them with an opportunity to see the portion of the Senice Water System in question as well as have a number of their concerns addreaed. Therefore, we propose a meeting at the Calvert Cliffs site with the appropriate NRC Staff in lieu of providing written responses at this j

time. The meeting can be scheduled at your convenience.

Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with a

you.

Very truly yours, i
