This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject condition. initially reported to the Commission as a potentially re-portable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e) .

As stated in our previous report, QA-1788, dated May 27, 1982, numerous document deficiencies were identified in welder performance qualification records. H. J. Kaiser Co. (HJK) has reviewed the avail-able records for welder performance qualifications and has issued deficiency reports in accordance with its QA program. In the review of approximately 5000 performance qualification test records associated with approximately 2300 welders HJK has identified document deficiencies ,

on approximately 600 Nonconformance Reports (NRs) and forty-six (46)  !

Corrective Action Requests (CARS) . Approximately 140 NRs have been resolved and are now closed, with the remaining under evaluation by the Zimmer NR Material Review Board.

Task II of the Zimmer Quality Confirmation Program has reviewed approximately 2600 qualification test records to date. However, addi-tional original quality documentation previously unavailable for review has been released by the HJK Welding Department and transmitted to HJK records management.
