This letter constitutes an interim report concerning the subject con-dition initially reported to the Commission on November 26, 1982, as a potentially reportable deficiency under 10CFR50.55(e).

11. J. Kaiser Co. , Non-conformance Report (NR) #10,270 identified a 4'-5" W8x31 beam to be used in the fabrication of hanger 1RH313HR as having the original mill rolled heat number ground off and replaced with another.

Additional mill markings indicate that the beam in question is ASTM A-36 material manufactured by Northwestern Steel & Wire Co., however, the heat number stamped on the beam of the site is traceable to ASTM A-588 Gr. B.

It is believed that this change is an isolated case, but CC&E is performing an extensive review of problems associated with heat number transfers and will provide a follow-up report by January 31, 1983.

We trust the above will be found acceptable as an interim response under 10CFR50.55(e).
