Subject:

James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant Analog Transmitter / Trip Unit System Docket No. 50-333

Dear Sir:

Transmitted herewith is additional information requested byz the Commission by telephone on September 6,1978 concerning Analog. Transmitter / Trip Unit System (ATTUS). The Authority had previous-ly requested modification to the Technical Specifications to reflect installation of the ATTUS. Question 1: Provide vendor name and model number for the transmitter to be utilized.

Response

Vendor Model Number Transmitter Rosemount 510 DU Trip Unit Rosemount 510 DU Question 2: Provide divisional separation criteria.

Response

Divisional separation for all wiring is in accord-ance with the following code and regulations: i) IEEE 279 (1971) 11) General Electric document No. 22A3777-7370/70/75' 8 Revision 1, " Electrical Equipment Separation for Safeguard System" (December,1974) 9( \\

_2-111) Final Safety Analysis Report, Answer to Question 7.21 Question 3: Provide cabinet layout.

Response

Cabinet: Hoffman Single Door Cabinet (See Attachment A for layout) Question 4: Describe environmental and seismic qualification.

Response

Environmental Qualification The ATTUS is installed outside Primary Containment. The area is conditioned by the Reactor Building Ventilation System and the temperature is maintained to approximately '750F. Radiation level in the area is between 1 to 3 millirem per hour. Seismic Qualification Seismic tests for electrical components (trip units, card files, trip relays and power supplies) were conducted accord-ing to IEEE-344-1975 to acceleration levels in excess of the magnitudes expect-ed at the hardware mounting locations. The three axes were tested independently at low g levels for dwell times of 30 to 35 seconds to determine if the hardware had any resonances. Since no resonant fre-quencies were found, all testing was performed at 33 Hz. Seismic qualification analyses for the cabinet which houses the electrical com-ponents were performed. Following the analyses, the cabinet and the cabinet door were modified in order to raise their natural frequencies. The modifi-cation assures that the acceleration applied to the assembled cabinet during a design basis earthquake would not exceed the input acceleration applied by l the concrete wall to the cabinet. 9 e ,w---
