Response to Generic Letter 90-03 Periodic contact with vendors of safety-related components has been maintained through the UE Quality Assurance audit program which is maintained by the Supplier Quality Group of the Quality Services Department.
Our program will be revised to provide additional assurance that information is made available to Union Electric that reflects current vendor service bulletins and operational problems.
A proceduralized program for periodic direct contact with selected vendors of safety related components will be established and implemented by December 31, 1990.
Initial contact with solceted-vendors and verification of the accuracy and completeness of information available to Valog Electric from
.these vendors will be completed by 1/1/90' Qbercafter, periodic reverification through direct contact w113 be performed on a staggered interval, with the maximnm intarval betwoon contacts with a vendor not to exceed 24-months.
TMo l'roquency of contact with an individual vendor may be increasci based on the performance history of the vendor's equipment and the incidence of-problems'within the industry.
-In developing a list of vendors to be included in tha Vendor Interfaco program, several sources werc.ovaluated with respect to thc1rocommendations provided by the NRC via Generic Lot?cr 90-03 and'the NRC Safety Evaluation for Callaway's response to Generic Letter 83-28.
The following sources for developing the list of "mndors include:
. a.:
Evaluation of vendors on the Callaway Qualified Suppliers List.
b.
Input from other programs established at Callaway which have identified vendors with a defined maintenance problem history, c.
Input from the Materials Engineering Department with respect to procurement problems.
Consistent with NRC recommendations and performance history at callaway, the vendors which have been selected by Union Electric for direct vendor contact include those associated with the Emergency Diesel Generators, ESF Switchgcar, Class lE Batteries and Battery Chargers, AFW Pumps, Main Steam and Main Feedwater Isolation Valves, and safety related motor operated valves.
Limitorque Corporation is the solo supplier of safety-related motor. operated valvo actuators for Callaway Plant.
The interface

-described previously in Union Electric letters to the NRC dated t
- November 18, 1983 and May 17, 1985.
The Westinghouse program covers several components and subtier vendors including inverters, ECCS pumps, and NSSS valve operators.
This will be i
incorporatodiasfpart of the now vendor interface program being established in response to Generic Letter 90-03.
In the event thatLvendors of equipment identified above are unavailabic or unresponsivo, Union Electric continues to meet the requirement of Generic Letter 83-28, Section 2.2.2.
Where vendors cannot be identified, have gone out of business, or will t
not supply information, Union Electric will enhance attention to equipment maintenance, replacement, and repair to compensate for the lack of vendor backup and to ensure-reliability commensurate with safety function.
