Dear Mr. Novak:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Schedule for Submittal of the Revised Fire Hazards Analysis Report By Ictter dated September 30, 1981, your Mr. D. C. Eisenhut informed Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) that the South Texas Project (STP) would be reviewed against 10 CFR 50 Appendix R.

HL&P was also requested to submit a comparison of 10 CFR 50 Appendix R and the STP fire protection program.

In July, 1983, HL&P will submit a revised Fire Hazard Analysis Report (FHAR) to update the criteria and methodology sections.

This will allow NRC to review in general STP's compliance with 10 CFR 50 Appendix R.

In July, 1984, the FHAR will be revised to update the detailed area drawings and calculations.

If you should have any questions concerning this matter, please contact Mr. Michael E. Powell at (713) 877-3281.

Very truly yours, a

5.
