Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 3, Reporting of Potential Significant Deficiencies in Design and Construction: Failure of Pinion Gear Shear Keys in Limitorque Model SBO (SD-25)
As required by Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations Part 50, Paragraph 55(e),
Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) is reporting a potential significant deficiency in the construction of Millstone Jnit No. 3. On August 4,1982 Mr. R.
Lefebvre of Northeast Utilities Service G,mpany telephoned your Mr. L. Briggs to report a potential significant deficiency regarding the failure of pinion gear shear keys in Limitorque model SBO motor operated valves.
At present we are unable to provide a final report describing the corrective and preventative measures to be taken because we are still in the preliminary stages of assessing the problem.
We are also unable, at this time, to provide a commitment date for the final report. Therefore, to follow this commitment we will provide you with an update by October 5,1982.
