'Cm a3 92i Mr. James G. Keppler, Director United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 t-
Dear Mr. Keppler:
This letter is to provide a current status and to outline future activity in the area of piping supports and anchor modifications resulting from IE Bulletin 79-02 and 79-14 at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 1.
Currently, all piping supports at the facility meet or exceed the criteria for interim system operability as defined in supplement 1 of Revision 1 to IE Bulletin 79-02.
The completion date previously identified for the support modifications outside of containment was December 31, 1982.
However, the current outage activity has caused some delay due to the unanticipated time and amount of work involved in the auxiliary feedwater header replacement effort. Also, in an effort to enhance plant safety by controlling construction manpower activities in the plant, a restriction has been placed on the number of personnel doing work at any given time.
Coupled with finite resources at Toledo Edison, the final completion of the work on hangers outside containment will not be finalized until sometime during 1983, as manpower and finite resources allow. The Non-Conformance Report (NCR) dispositioning on some of these hangers should be complete by mid-September, 1982. These NCR's involve correcting defi-ciencies from design to as-built configurations, which do not involve design modifications and are minor in nature.
The work inside the containment vessel has all been completed on supports where design modifications were necessary. There are eleven (11) minor modifications remaining to complete inside containment. These minor modifications are to bring supports to their original design condition (i.e. add a missing veld, modify a shim, etc.).
All of these 11 modific-ations have been reviewed in their pre-modification condition against our interim acceptance criteria for operability and found to be acceptable.
The 11 modifications not completed at the end of the current outage will be completed at the next outage of sufficient duration, not to exceed the next refueling outage completion date.
