Dear Mr. Haynes:
This letter is to confirm our verbal notification of your Mr. Ralph Architzel of the discovery that the pressurizer pressure transmitters for the four safety channel vere out of calibration (T.S. 2.2.1, 3.3.1.1, 3.3.2.1).
At 0405 on August 5,1982, while in Mode 3, the pressurizer safety cbnnels were removed from service to perform calibration checks on their respective pressure transmitters. It was subsequently discovered that the pressure transsitters were out of calibration in the low direction. These pressure transmitters were recalibrated at 1200 on August 5, 1982. Further investiga-tion revealed that a number of the stess generator pressure transmitters were also out of calibration. These pressure transmitters were recalibrated at 1700 on August 5, 1982. In order to monitor for possible future calibration

problems with these pressure transmitters, readings are being taken periodi-l cally and compared against test gauges.
A complete description of this event, together with a detailed description of cause and corrective actions, vill be provided in the follow-up report.
