Dear Mr. Denton:

South Texas Project Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Revised Cost Estimate and Construction Schedule On August 4,1982 Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) announced a revised cost estimate and schedule for the South Texas Project (STP).

HL&P currently estimates the cost for both units to total 5.495 billion dollars, including 1.741 billion already expended, with expected fuel load dates of December,1986 for Unit 1 and December,1988 for Unit 2.

Based upon these fuel load dates, HL&P expects to begin conmercial operation in May,1987 for Unit 1 and May,1989 for Unit 2.
