20555 10CFR21 Report of a Potential Defect Related to Washington Public Power Supply System -
WNP-1 and 4
Reference:
(1) UE&C to NRC dated 4/20/82 (2) UE&C to NRC dated 1/29/82
Dear Sir:
In reference letter (1), UE&C informed the Commission of the status of analysis, at that time, pertaining to a reportable condition under 10CFR21 regarding the structural steel framing in the Containment as identified in reference letter (2).
This is to inform you that the tests being conducted to determine the flexi-bility of the framing connections were not concluded by the expected date of July 30, 1982 and, consequently, the final design will not be completed by the committed date of Aogust 28, 1982.
Based on the analysis and testing done to date, it is apparent ths.t modifications to the existing structures are required. The modifications will consist of a minimum of removal of certain bracing members and providing of " sliding" joints for main framing members. The present analysis is based upon an assumed flexi-bility of the framing connections, therefore, upon interpretation of the test results, certain reanalysis may be required.
It is now expected that the test results will be available by August 30, 1982.
The status of the design review and possible reanalysis will be reported by October 30, 1982.
