August 16, 1982 Chief, Standardization and Special Projects Branch Division of Licensing Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, DC 20055

Dear Sir:

This is to supply some additional information for Change #1 to our technical specifications as requested in our letter of May 24, 1982, and as discussed during our telephone conversation this day.

The worst possible case would involve the reactor being on a one second period corrgponding to the reactivity increase of the licensed limit of 0.006 7 excess when the limiting safety system setting of 1.2 kW is reached. If no credit is taken for the negative reactivity as the shim-safety rods are inserted in the proposed maximum drop time of one second a maximum power of only 3.26 kW would be reached before shut down. This is well below the safety limit of 50 kW.

If we can be of any further assistance in this matter, please feel free to call on us.

Sincerely,

&fnv Eidon R. Stansberry Reactor Supervisor ERS: lab o70 e20s24o4oi gagg ffb@vesnarayette,inmana 4m fDR ADOCK 05000h2 h8 PDR
