O THE CINCINNATI GAS & ELECTRIC COMPANY es-CINCINN ATI O HIO 452OI August 16, 1982 QA-1934 E. A. BORG MAN N SE NIOR vtCE PRE 540EM U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, Illinois 60137 ATTN:
Mr. J. G. Keppler Regional Administrator RE:
WM. H. ZIMMER NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT 1 10CFR50.55(e) - ITEM E ELECTRICAL SEPARATIONS DOCKET #50-358 - CONSTRUCTION PERMIT #CPPR-88 W.O. #57300 JOB E-5590 FILE NO. NRC-7 & E-19 Gentlemen:
This letter constitutes a final report concerning the subject deficiency reported under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e). Our last report on this matter was submitted on June 11, 1982.
As previously reported, the Architect / Engineer did not adequately translate applicable electrical separation criteria into the installation specifications and/or drawings. As a result, the site General Contractor did not develop adequate electrical separation inspection criteria.
The result of our evaluation demonstrates that the lack of adequate separation criteria for the following items is reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).
A.
Separation of non-essential calle tray from conduits containing essential cables.
B.
Separation of essential cable trays from conduits containing associated cables.
The above deficiencies are of concern because of the potential to cause the loss of a redundant safety function.
The Architect / Engineer has responded to Corrective Action Reports by incorporating additional electrical separation criteria in the installation specification and design documents. Previously installed cables and raceways i
will be verified by walkdown inspections overseen by CG&E to assure conformance to the additional separation criteria. Nonconforming items identified will be handled in the appropriate corrective action system. The above program will be completed prior to plant startup.
