( r Wr?#

Gentlemen: [

Georgia Power Company has previously reported a significant deficiency to the NRC concerning centrifugal charging pump operation following secondary side high energy line ruptures. Corrective action for this problem has not been reported to the NRC.

Westinghouse, in a letter dated October 13, 1981, submitted a proposed corrective action to resolve this problem. The action proposed by Westinghouse is being reviewed by Georgia Power Company since it would impact the control logic for the Chemical and Volume Control System (CVCS); motor control center design; the piping layout in various areas of the plant, and the main control board design and layout.

Because of the potential impact on plant systems, Georgia Power Company has instructed its architect / engineer to pursue alternate design modification. Georgia Power Company will inform the NRC of the corrective action that will be taken on or before August 6, 198?.

This response cc:;tains no proprietary information and may be placed in the NRC Public Document Room upon receipt.

Yours truly, l
