Dear Chairman Ahearne:
We have recently been advised by the Honorable William J. Guste, Jr., Attorney General for the State of Louisiana,
~'.~, 2 that the NRC inspection of the nuclear power plant under construction at St. Francisville scheduled for this month has been cancelled as a result of budget restrictions.
While we appreciate and support the critical need for
~
reduced federal spending, we strongly feel that the safety I
of nuclear power generation should not be jeopardized.
We would appreciate any assistance which you can provide in this matter and we respectfully request a reconsideration of this decision.
A copy of General Guste's letter to us, with attachments, is enclosed for your information and convenience.
