December 3, 1~EO Rep. Richard Bolling j
811 Grand Kansas City, Missouri Desr Rep. Bolling:
I am greatly alarred by the prospect of radioactive I
waste in the Eissouri River.
According to a recent article in the Kansas City Star, the ccmpletion of the Callaway nuclear plant would allow for the dumping of low-level radioactive water into the river.
The article further stated that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has established guidlines for supposedly safe levels of radiation, but does not have a legal, enforcable standard.
(This probably stems from the fact that there is such a wide dive"sity of opinion 1
as to what are considered safe levels of radioactivity.)
i Congressman Bolling, is there anything that you can do l
to see that radioactive water is not dumped into the River?
Surely there must be a way to stop either the completion of this nuclear faculty or the NCR from i
sanctioning this tremendous health and environmental hazard?
4 I realice that Union Electric has poured a great deal of money into the hands of individuals and business organizations to support the defeat of General Proposi-l tion No.11, during the past general election.
But I feel that the public, after delayed facts and figures, have been hoodwinked.
What, are the recourses left to i
those of us who dissent on moral, ethical,-and divergent scientific grounds?
f Please inform me as to your position on this matter.
- Also, I would appreciate knowing of what action I might take to stop this potential menace to our city, and to future i
generations that will depend on our guidance and leadership.
Sincerely, t,
D
