August 11, 1982 NOTICE OF NON-ROUTINE EVENT INVOLVING AGREEMENT STATE OR AGREEMENT MATERIALS 07 This NOTICE constitutes an early report of events occurring in an Agreement State of possible safety or public interest significance.
The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by State Agreements Program staff as of this date.

SUBJECT:
Ir-192 Tagged Sand Low-Level Contamination The Louisiana Nuclear Energy Division notified Region IV of low-level radioactive contamination, caused by iridium-192 tagged sand, identified in private homes (readings of 2 to 3 times background) and in the company's office and shop (readings of 10 mrem /hr on floor mats).
This situation is being closely monitored by two Louisiana staff members who have been at the location since August 10, 1982.
According to State officials, there has been no news media interest in Bossier City.
The Nuclear Energy Division may make a press release if the licensee does not.
Region IV will continue to follow future developments concerning this matter.
NRC does not plan to issue a press release at this time.
